چکیده

Problems of combustion are usually mathematically described by a variabledensity formulation of the Navier-Stokes equations at low Mach number. Finite volume and finite difference methods have been proposed for large-eddy simulation (LES) of variable-density turbulent flows at low Mach number. Finite element methods, which are often better suited for problems in complex geometries, have so far only been applied to laminar flows of this kind, to the best of our knowledge. We recently proposed an Algebraic Variational Multiscale-Multigrid Method (AVM) within a finite element framework for LES of turbulent variable-density flow at low Mach number. The G-function approach to turbulent premixed combustion problems is based on the flamelet concept. Within this concept, the flame front is modeled as a sharp embedded interface represented by the iso-surface of a level-set function. Because properties of burnt and unburnt gases vary significantly across the interface, the flow field renders discontinuous. To account for jumps in the velocity and the pressure field, an eXtended Finite Element Method (XFEM) is applied. Following this idea, we were able to achieve very promising results for laminar premixed combustions problems. Our efforts towards developing extended variational multiscale methods for turbulent premixed combustion will be presented in this talk.

Simulation of Premixed Combustion Flow around Circular Cylinder using Hybrid Random Vortex

This research describes the unsteady two-dimensional reacting flows around a circular cylinder. The numerical solution combines the random vortex method for incompressible two-dimensional viscous fluid flow with a Simple Line Interface Calculation (SLIC) algorithm for the propagation of flame interface. To simplify the governing equations, two fundamental assumptions namely Low Mach Number and ...

Large-eddy Simulation of Non-premixed Flames, Using a Novel Pressure-correction Approach

An efficient time accurate algorithm with great potential in LES simulations of non-premixed flames is presented for numerical simulations of low-Mach number variable density flows. The algorithm is based on a segregated solution formalism in the class of pressure-correction methods. It shows good conservation properties and returns stable results, regardless of the difference in density betwee...

The Effects of Pressure Difference in Nozzle’s two Phase Flow on the Quality of Exhaust Mixture

In the most application of nozzle with gas-liquid two-phase flow, the quality of mixture in exhaust of nozzle is the most important parameter as well as the flow velocity. On the other hand, in some industrial application, such as water injection in forced induction (turbocharged or supercharged) internal combustion engine the spray quality is the main goal of designing. In this case and for im...

Numerical Simulation of Premixed Turbulent Methane Combustion

In this paper we study turbulent premixed methane flames with swirl using three-dimensional numerical simulation. The simulations are performed using an adaptive time-dependent low Mach number combustion algorithm based on a second-order projection formulation that conserves both species mass and total enthalpy. The species and enthalpy equations are treated using an operator-split approach tha...

Combustion in low Mach number isotropic turbulence

Turbulent reacting flows are often met in industrial applications where many simulations have been performed, mostly concerning problems in practical devices. In turbulent combustion, fluid dynamics is strongly coupled with chemical kinetics. Actually turbulent stirring may enhance chemical reaction or may lead to local quenching. A better knowledge of these interactions is required both for a ...
